First of all, I did not say that the church deliberately aided the people who broke into my mothers home. Your comment on the "personal wealth" shows your intelligence. Over her 53 yr marriage to my father, do you not think that with valuables, such as tools, jewelry, household furnishings, keepsakes, memories, etc., could easily be more than $30,000? As far as me coming to her rescue, I was recovering from an almost fatal vehicle accident. Since then I have came to her rescue, as you say. You see, my mother isn't the only member of the family associated with Hopewell. My children are also members. We were active in attending church regularly. I was about to move my letter to Hopewell when I found out how caring and concerned they were with their members. Both of my parents became very ill and my mother was unable to attend church for a period of time. Not one member, or the pastor ever reached out to see if they were doing well or to offer a prayer. I knew right then that I did not want to be in anyway associated with them. I did not know that my mother had asked for help from Hopewell until after the fact. But the funny thing is she was told by church officials to "try United Way". I think you need to read your Bible more carefully before you speak, maybe then you would have to use the word "Biblical" so much to try & make people think you are something you are not. I do have a lot of bitterness inside because of things I have gone through and am going through. I believe in forgiveness, and in time I will be able to do that, but not right now. I just lost my Father a year ago and these animals took things of his that we will never be able to replace, they invaded his home. My Mother and Father helped these people when they needed something to eat, when they needed to make a phone call, and they were repayed this way. So yes I am very bitter. Good luck to you and to Hopewell and all of its members.

  • I have visited Hopewell Baptist Church on a number of occasions and have found the church to be friendly and the staff to be competent men of God. The church is active in the community and has a number of vibrant ministries. I would recommend this church if you are a Bible-believing Christian, or are interested in becoming one. The adult Sunday School class that I have attended, taught by Georgia Legislator James Mills on Sunday mornings at 11:00am, is excellent. The Senior Pastor, Dr. Robby Foster, delivers good to excellent sermons, typically as a Biblical expositor.

I do have to comment on the review by Debra. I have served on the benevolence committee at another church and often times benevolence decisions are made with incomplete or inaccurate information from the requester. Knowing the staff at Hopewell, I seriously doubt that a deliberate decision was made to help a group of drug users who had "ruined" the life of a 68 year old woman. If indeed, $30,000 worth of items were stolen from Debra's mother, then I would ask with such a personal wealth why was Debra's mother seeking assistance in the first place. I would also ask why didn't Debra come to her mother's aid? In any case, to fault a church for giving benevolence to a party, whether that party is good or bad, is not Biblical. The Bible commands us both love and forgive our enemies, or the result is bitterness, something Debra seems to have plenty of.
